Couples Psychotherapy
Is your marriage or other intimate relationship in need of help?
Couples psychotherapy is a type of therapy that helps romantic partners improve their relationship by resolving current and past conflicts, enhancing communication, and strengthening emotional bonds. The therapist will help you to explore how the past experiences of each member of the couple can impact the current relationship and the communication dynamics. New ways of understanding each other through a lens of compassion and healthy ways of communicating needs will be at the forefront of the work that you will do together.
Finding Clarity and Strength
The uncertainties that come with facing major stressors in your relationship can cause the most loving and committed couples to pull away from each other. You don’t have to go it alone. Your therapist is committed to bearing witness to your pain and suffering, to helping you understand the origins of your struggles, and to helping you learn how to develop healthy communication and move along the path of healing. As these goals are accomplished, the couple can often develop an even closer and deeper connection.
How Couples Therapy Can Benefit Your Relationship

What Couples Therapy With Me Is Like
As your couple’s therapist, I will show up with great compassion but also with directness. I will challenge you and your partner to work hard to develop a deepened understanding for what each of you brings into the relationship. It isn’t only about the present conflicts, but also about how each member of the couple has been impacted emotionally in their childhoods and in their later years. Emotional impacts from the past may be from significant trauma or even lesser “old wounds.” Each member of the couple brings all of their past into the present relationship, often without awareness of the impact. I will help each member of the couple to fully “see” the other and to make good faith efforts to change behaviors that are not serving the best interest of the partnership. During the session, I will encourage you often to speak with each other so that we can identify where the communication challenges lie.
